Taking a flatlay is way harder than it looks! At Olive & Lile HQ, we are obsessed with them. We think its a super cute and creative way to show you our products! So our stylist has put together her top tips for getting the perfect flat lay for Instagram.
Lighting is what will make or break your flatlay, so the brighter the better. We think daylight is the best, but if the room your shooting in has bad lighting we recommend investing in a ring light to keep the picture nice and bright, to show off all the amazing details in your flatlay!
Flatlays are all about telling a story, and every prop counts – so choose wisely. Ask yourself what are you trying to portray, whats your theme? We love featuring fresh blooms and interior products in ours. Some of our favourite shops to pick up the perfect flatlay props; Amazon Ebay Etsy & random little homeware boutiques.
When planning your flatlay, there are some amazing websites to get ideas and inspiration. Our favourites are Pinterest & We Heart It.
Angles are so important in a flat lay, don’t be surprised if you take 200 shots of the same flatlay each time at a different angle, and slightly tweaking the positioning of the the items! It takes a few goes to get the insta perfect shot.
Once you’ve got the perfect shot, edit the lighting and sharpening, put on your fav filter and then your flatlay is Insta ready! For more of our flatlay’s, follow our Instagram & Pinterest
