stSt Tropez is, quite simply, the most famous resort in Europe – one of the iconic Bridget Bardot’s favourite places to holiday. St Tropez attracts the chicest of people, and is perfect place for any fashion lover to go!

Where to stay?

The Hotel Sezz Saint-Tropez inventively combines charm and design to praise the ever so precious feeling of getting away from it all. Elegance, refinement and tranquillity describe the hotel experience. The interior was designed by French designer, Christophe Pillet.

club 55

Where to eat & swim?

Le Club 55, is a popular spot amongst the celebrities and we can see why! Enjoy sunbathing on the beach, cocktail in hand, and then throw on your kaftan and head to the restaurant for some delicious lunch and refreshing glass of wine.

Chanel’s pop up boutique

The La Mistralée private mansion has re-opened its doors for Chanel’s summer pop-up boutique in Saint-Tropez and every fashionista has to go see it! A shopping experience like no other.

What to wear?

There is that French Riviera look, one that St Tropez famously sports. We recommend, shirt dresses, flowing caftans, floppy sun hats and gladiator sandals. If you can describe your outfit as chic, your good to so in St Tropez.

Shop your St Tropez outfit with us, we suggest the Long Lost Two Piece by day, and the Quinn Dress by night.

Parisian Weekend Getaway xo

paris polaroids 1

A weekend in Paris is the perfect getaway, whether its a trip with your girls or your love, Paris is the place to go.

paris books

Our first stop for ideas on what to do in Paris is our favourite books, ‘How To Be Parisian’ and ‘Bright Lights Paris’ they both offer great ideas on where to shop, dine and stay…Parisian style.

Where to shop?

Le Triangle D’or a small part of Paris has now been named “The Golden Triangle” this is where you will find the finest couture houses and cafés surrounded by the perfect triangle formed by Avenue Montaigne, Avenue George V, and Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Christian Dior, Céline, Balmain are just a few you will find at Le Triangle D’or, finish the shopping trip off with a stop at La Maison du Chocolate.

The Eiffel Tower

All day and night the Eiffel Tower looks incredible. We recommend taking a trip and having a champagne picnic under the tower at lunch time, and then taking a cab to watch it light up the city and sparkle at night.

Where to eat?

If you are wanting a light lunch and a sweet treat, head to Ladurée for a glass of champagne, a Croque-monsieur and some Macaroons.

What to pack?

When in Paris, dress like a Parisian, so pack your skinny jeans, black blazer, chic silk scarf, oversized sunglasses and a white shirt.

Who doesn’t love pancakes?

Ahhh pancake day, one of those days that we still get excited about every year as we all know everyone will be venturing home after work to make pancakes filled with an array of different toppings.

Here we share with you our favourites and give you a little inspiration for making your very own.

This is a simple, everyday pancake recipe, great for sweet or savoury pancakes.

  1. 200g/7oz plain flour

  2. 350-400ml/12-14fl oz milk, or ½ milk ½ water for a lighter pancake

  3. 2 large eggs, lightly whisked

  4. 1 tbsp vegetable oil (you will also need vegetable oil for the frying pan)

  5. Pinch salt

Lets make some pancakes…

  1. Put the flour into a large bowl, make a well in the centre and pour in the milk and eggs. Give the liquid mixture a quick whisk before incorporating the flour. Continue to whisk until you have a smooth batter.
  2. Now add 1 tbsp vegetable oil and whisk thoroughly.
  3. Take a crêpe pan, or large frying pan, dip some kitchen roll in the oil and carefully wipe the inside of the pan. Heat the pan over a medium heat for a minute.
  4. Add just under a ladleful of batter to the pan and immediately start swirling it round the pan to get a nice even layer.
  5. Cook the pancake for approximately 30-40 seconds. Use a palette knife to lift the pancake carefully to look at the underside to check it is golden-brown before turning over. Do you dare to flip it? Cook the other side for approx 30-40 seconds and transfer to a serving plate.

Now it’s time to get creative:

Add a little food colouring to the mix – this helps to create amazing looking pancakes – play around with colours, you can use red, blue or green food colouring

Picture source: cookingclassy –  They suggest red food colouring and raspberry’s  and mint to finish.

Ice cream, cream and chocolate sauce – for all those with a super sweet tooth. Dare you layer your pancake stack?

For those of us that like a little healthier option, loading your pancakes with fruit is just as delicious. Strawberries, blueberries and banana are the perfect mix.

Why not share with us your perfect pancake toppings? Better still tag us in your pancake post on Instagram #oliveandlile – we would love to see what wonderful creations you guys come up with.

Have a great day

The Month Of Love

What better way to spend your first two weeks of February than searching for the perfect Valentines dress, thinking about baking the most amazing Valentines cookies or cakes, or hand-crafting some little treats for those lucky significant others.

In our first of three entries – we show you how to make Valentines themed cupcakes, our top picks on what to wear and hand-crafting some of your  very own little decorations.

Valentines Cupcakes

Less than 30 minutes preparation time.

10 to 30 minutes cooking time.

 Makes 12 cupcakes

  • 110g/4oz butter or margarine, softened at room temperature
  • 110g/4oz caster sugar
  • 2 free-range eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 110g/4oz self raising flour
  • 1-2 tbsp milk

Preparation method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 and line a 12-hole muffin tin with paper cases.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a bowl until pale. Beat in the eggs a little at a time and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Fold in the flour using a large metal spoon, adding a little milk until the mixture is of a dropping consistency. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases until they are half full.
  4. Fold in the flour using a large metal spoon, adding a little milk until the mixture is of a dropping consistency. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases until they are half full.
  5. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until golden-brown on top and a skewer inserted into one of the cakes comes out clean. Set aside to cool for 10 minutes, then remove from the tin and cool on a wire rack.

Once your cakes have cooled it’s time to decorate them, we suggest using butter cream to decorate the top.

  • 140g/5oz butter, softened
  • 280g/10oz icing sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp milk
  • a few drops food colouring

For the butter cream icing

  1. For the butter cream icing, beat the butter in a large bowl until soft. Add half the icing sugar and beat until smooth.
  2. Then add the remaining icing sugar with one tablespoon of the milk, adding more milk if necessary, until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the food colouring and mix until well combined.
  4. Spoon the icing into a piping bag with a star nozzle and pipe the icing using a spiralling motion onto the cup cakes in a large swirl.

Gather yourself a selection of different decorations, these can be found in all major supermarkets.

*Add a little coco to your butter cream to make it chocolate flavoured and sprinkle with white icing sugar and cover with jelly hearts.

*Add some red or pink food colouring to your butter cream to colour and decorate with chocolate heart sprinkles.

*If your feeling a little adventurous – cut the middle out of your cupcake, to create a heart shape and fill with butter cream – sprinkle with icing sugar for effect.

Decorating for the festive season.

A little imagination can go along way at Christmas, especially when it comes to decorations. At Olive & Lile HQ we love getting back to nature, here we have a few of our favourite ways to decorate using the things you can find here, there and everywhere.

Handmade cinnamon candles, such a simple idea created using cinnamon sticks and standard pillar candles tied with string. When the candles warm up it releases the scent of the cinnamon.

paper decorations

Such a beautiful idea using paper cut from magazines or books, threaded together with string, you can add beads and glitter to make them as fancy as you wish and use them for Christmas tree decorations // Picture Source: Pinterest.

Using dried twigs can be very effective. There are also a number of ways to decorate these, you can spray them with glitter or fake snow, they can then be placed in the centre of the table with candles or in a vase. You can add Christmas lights to make them look extra festive.

If you are feeling extra creative you can try combining the two, pine-corns and dried twigs work extra well together, especially when glitter, snow and ribbon are thrown in.

There are many garden centres that sell the wreath itself undecorated, if you fancy having a go but aren’t to sure how to start, the advantage to doing this is you can add all the bits you like without the worry.

Bring the outdoors indoors this Christmas, and get creative!
